Contemporary dance created a special niche for itself soon after its inception in the mid years of twentieth century. Its strength lies in its approach to incorporate whatever it finds effective from any genre that makes it exceptionally rich. This approach very much resembles that of the modern American society opening itself up to the best influences from worldwide.
It even welcomed non-dance disciplines into it making it the most formidable genre of dance. These include Alexander technique, Pilates, Sullivan technique, Cunningham technique, Feldenkrais method, Yoga, Contact improvisation, Franklin method and Release technique. Owing to all this fortification, contemporary dance is there to stay and flourish by leaps and bounds in coming years. You will find more about it in contemporary dance FAQ below.
