Online Dance Classes
We’re all finding different ways to pass the time during the lockdown. Perhaps you’ve chosen the relaxing route of watching movies, cooking, having family or alone time. Maybe you have chosen to take up some projects, painting, baking, or working on a new language. Or maybe you’ve struck a balance between the two. Regardless, we cannot remain stagnant in our homes. In fact we need to find a way to keep moving and exercising for the good of our bodies.
For the past couple weeks, FLUX has been doing its part to keep us moving. It has done so by offering online classes for dance, art, and music. But as the lockdown stretches on, we decided to organize a more comprehensive course for people who really want to work on a skill in all this downtime. We are offering online dance classes in Bangalore. Read on to find what programs will work best for you – or your whole family!
Online Dance Classes live
We have assembled two different programs with the best instructors around. Out of these, the contemporary dance program is comprised of 8 workshops that total 32 hours. It begins on April 26th. Every two days you will have one instructor, so you can build on what you have done the day before. All the classes work together to make a program that will help you boost your flexibility, immunity, and strength. Ideally you would commit to all the classes and find yourself with a sense of accomplishment after 32 hours of twists, turns, jumps and lunges. However, you may be more interested in one particular form of dance, so you could choose those classes. Or perhaps you have taken classes with an instructor you really enjoy. In that case, you can sign up for just those classes as well.
Online Contemporary Dance Classes in Bangalore Indiranagar at FLUX (26th April – 11th May)
Our online contemporary dance classes from 26th April to 11th May 2020 are being taught by a wide range of experienced instructors.
Our first 2 workshops are taught by Parth Bharadwaj. Parth is a contemporary dance practitioner, who trained extensively through his association with Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. His classes work towards finding a deeper connection between breath, spine and finding continuous energy flow. Parth integrates spirals, floor work, physical sensations, fall & recovery, speed, dynamism & precision to his classes. Expect to work up a sweat with the combination of individual movement practice, multiple contemporary techniques and martial arts.
The next two workshops are taught by Atul Kumar, who is a mixed bag of a designer, dancer, choreographer and an entrepreneur. He has trained in various martial art and dance forms such as Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Bollywood, Hip hop, Yoga and Kalari for over past 10 years, with various teachers. Currently he is also one of the organizers of the renowned Sanskar International Dance Festival, India. He holds a certification by California University of Arts in site-specific work creation. Come learn contemporary dance improv with Atul!
Our third workshop is taught by FLUX founder Sahiba Singh. Sahiba is the founder of Flux, contemporary dancer and a theatre practitioner. She has been dancing for 14 years. She started FLUX in October 2019 with an aim of creating arts. It works towards systemic and personal change through her own artistic work and what she teaches. With Sahiba, you will learn release technique which is a form of contemporary technique. It emphasises on fluidity, flow and choreography.
In early May, we have our fourth workshop with Seher. Seher has been dancing since the age of nine and has also completed her Arangetram. She has also trained at Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts and has been dancing professionally with Nritarutya Dance Company for four years. Her online sessions will be structured to aim at both technique and dance sequences that root from a more Indian movement perspective. It will aim to bring in the nature and lines of Indian dance forms such as Bharatnatyam and the dynamic flow of contemporary dance.
Our fifth workshop will be taught by in-house FLUX teacher Anshu Priya. She has been following her passion for dance from the past 4 years and still continues to do so. She has been training under Sahiba Singh in Contemporary Dance for 2 years now. In her online sessions, she will focus on helping the students with body awareness and mind body connection. She makes learning complex choreography seem simple, even for beginners. And with Anshu, your core will sure get stronger!
Sixth, we have Yashaswini, another FLUX instructor. Yashaswini has been dancing for the past 6 years. Like Anshu, she has been training under Sahiba’s tutelage in contemporary dance. In her Online Sessions, Yashaswini will be focusing mainly on building arm strength and introducing release technique to the students. Release technique plays a very important role in the learning of contemporary dance. So come learn from Yashaswini, dubbed our very own “release queen”!
Our seventh teacher is Shyam Hemrom. He works with FLUX often, and has been dancing for almost a decade now. Shyam is not only a teacher for the students but also acts as an inspiration for them as he is filled with energy, stamina, flexibility and strength. In his online sessions, he will be focusing more on acrobatic related choreography. This will help the students gain more strength and flexibility. His class will be filled with routines made specially to increase arm and core strength, the two main elements that help an individual grow as a mover. His routines are fun and challenging!
Finally, we have Aambaresh. He has been training in contemporary dance for more than 5 years. Freestyling is his main focus and passion, but he has also works in dancehall and other forms. In his classes, the student will be learning different movement qualities through inner exploration and choreographies with a good understanding of musicality. He will also be introducing improvisation to the students which helps get rid of inhibitions and move better.
Online Contemporary Dance Classes for beginners
All these classes are suitable for beginners. The instructors understand that everyone tuning in won’t be a trained dancer, or perhaps have never danced at all. Well, aside from maybe a wedding or two!
They will be sure to guide you slowly, pausing for questions and clarifying anything. Through the format of these lessons, they can also see your movements and help by correcting you. Remember, we were all beginners once!
Online Dance Classes for Kids
They will also enjoy to get their bodies moving and their blood pumping.
When it comes to children dancing in a format like this, there is no need to be perfect. It is also just about having fun!
Online Dance Classes for Adults
Clear a space in your house and tell everyone else to either leave you alone or join in!
Having a fixed activity in the day is really helpful during this lockdown. Also afterwards, you will feel a sense of accomplishment.
