About The First Playback Theatre Workshop in Bangalore Indiranagar at FLUX
All of us have so many stories that make up our lives! These are stories that carry the power of authentic emotions and feelings as they are real-life stories. When we share our life stories, they resonate with many others. This is because everyone can connect with the emotions behind the story. It is so even though each person’s individual experiences in life might be very different.
This dual essence of relatability and difference is the beauty and power of stories. The situations that each of us encounter in life are varied and the outcomes might be varied too. This brings such a breadth of perspectives when there is a collective sharing of personal stories!
And it is this power that Playback Theatre taps into. It does so by endeavoring to create a safe and non-judgmental space. Here people can share their real-life stories without any hesitation. This is what creates a connect between individuals through the sharing of these stories. The audience also gets to watch their real-life stories come alive in front of their eyes. It happens as the actors play back these stories on the spur of the moment. And they do so by using text, movement, images, sounds, and metaphors!
The sense of empathy, sensitivity, honest reflection and wide perspectives make Playback Theatre an enriching experience. For the performers, the format presents an interesting and unique challenge, of combining spontaneity, awareness and teamwork. Playback Theatre does not require the individual to be an actor in order to be a ‘Playbacker’.
