Pilates in Bangalore at FLUX
FLUX School of Arts, is a space where bodies meet their souls. Here people meet and connect with their bodies in a real deep way. Consequently, for many individuals, FLUX has become a safe space and home for their bodies.

Sahiba Singh, the founder of FLUX School of Arts, created this community art space in the year 2019. She had a clear vision that core supported movement should be an organic part of our daily lives. With a real strong core and a flexible spine, the movement turns naturally rhythmic with a melodious flow in it.

We, at FLUX School of Arts, believe that our bodies are our best friends. Why body primarily? It’s because the body is the most concrete entity that we have as the wholesome healer of body and mind. Our body holds the intuitive power as a concrete space that we explore the quality of our life with.

Intuitive body sessions are facilitated by Sahiba Singh. Flux means a constant state of change that the entire universe is in. And hence our bodies are always in a perennial state of flux too. In intuitive body sessions, we follow a holistic approach integrating psyche and body with body at the center of it.

This approach taps into the intuitive wisdom of our ever evolving, healing and unique bodies. It is focused on getting in touch with our mind body connection. We develop a deeper understanding of listening to our bodies whispering before they start screaming. Movement for us is the way of life and here we explore stillness in movement and movement in stillness. The very essence of this is beautifully translated by our teachers through regular sessions of Pilates in Bangalore at FLUX.
History of Pilates
Well, to dive deeper into the world of Pilates, let us first understand its history. Let’s understand what makes this movement practice so unique and how it turns less input into more output.

Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates as a mind body exercise. It involves repetitive movements or drills performed around the idea of body’s strength, flexibility, core strength and stability. It’s a slow movement workout emphasizing ‘less is more’ and demonstrating how with slowness, comes clarity, and precision in movements. Actually, Pilates is the art of being present in the here and now with our bodies.

Joseph Pilates who suffered from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever, developed this artistic technique during the First World War. In 1912 Pilates lived in England working as a circus performer, boxer, and self-defense instructor. During the First World War, he was interned with other German nationals. While in internship, he developed this technique of physical fitness by teaching it to his fellow internees.

During the latter part of the War, he served as an orderly in a hospital on the Isle of Man. There he worked with patients unable to walk. He attached bed springs to the hospital beds to help support the patients’ limbs. This ultimately led to the development of his famous piece of equipment known as the ‘Cadillac’. Much of his equipment, although slightly adapted, is still in use today in many Pilates Studios.

Pilates emigrated to the USA in the early 1920s with his wife Clara. And there they together developed and taught the method in their ‘body-conditioning gym’ in New York in 1926.

The studio featured much of the Apparatus designed to enhance his rehabilitation work. It soon became very popular, particularly with the dance community, as it offered a chance to improve technique and recover from injury.

Sahiba Singh, the Founder of FLUX, learned Pilates from one of the students of Joseph Pilates. And thus, all the original learnings are passed on to our students. Then they could pass their knowledge to others to grow and learn together. FLUX School of Arts promotes community growth and healing.

Joseph Pilates developed Pilates on three principles: breath, whole-body health, and whole-body commitment; encompassing mind, body, and spirit.
Principles of Pilates in Bangalore
The principles of Pilates stem from the deeper approach to movement. We at FLUX incorporate all these principles not only in our classes but also in our casual movements.

Breath: “Above all, learn how to breathe correctly.” – Joseph Pilates.
- Breath: Breath, being an integral part of Pilates workout, helps in regulation of the nervous system. This regulation relaxes all casual movement through the mind body connection. In Pilates we learn deep breathing rather than shallow breathing. This in turn helps in core activation and fluidity of each movement pattern.
- Concentration: It helps us being present and mindful, creating awareness of our mind body connection, thus improving our concentration.
- Centering: Centering includes core strength and core fortification. The notion of centering is that all Pilates exercises or body movements begin from core engagement. The core muscles include those of the abdominals, the lower back, the hips, and the pelvis. It emphasizes strengthening this area to stabilize the body and create a solid foundation for all other movements. A strong core improves posture, balance, and overall strength.
- Control: Control refers to the precise movement of each drill or repeated body movements. Every movement by our practitioners at FLUX is executed with careful attention to detail. This ensures that the body is performing each motion with the right alignment and intention. The goal is to prevent jerky or uncontrolled movements that can lead to injury.
- Precision: Precision involves executing each movement with clarity and alignment which in turn helps efficiency and body posture.
- Flow: At FLUX, dance is the way of life and thus flow is an integral part in all body movements. The natural fitness includes Pilates as its main constituent. Flow refers to smooth transitioning from one movement to another, ensuring that movement remains fluid rather than stiff or fragmented. Flow enhances the natural rhythm of the movement and flexibility.
It’s is a low impact exercise that focuses on balance or stability, posture, strength and flexibility. Our Pilates classes at FLUX emphasize on body and posture alignment, controlled movements, core strength, flexibility and mindfulness.

The intention behind Pilates is to provide holistic well being. It was initially started for injured soldiers doing exercises in hospital beds to promote rehabilitation. But with its gained popularity, now all ages practice Pilates for fitness and overall physical and mental wellbeing.

- Core strength: It helps and enhances core strength. Its basic foundation is core strength and thus includes activation or engaging our core muscles. These include abdominal muscles, hip muscles, back muscles, and pelvis muscles. A strong core helps in overall alignment, toned muscles, flexibility, stability, and balance of our body movements. This helps in understanding control, release efficiency and ease in our body movements.
- Flexibility: It includes stretching and lengthening exercises which helps in expanded movements and improves flexibility in upper and lower body. Thus, it helps in reducing stiffness and increasing joint mobility and agility. Our lifestyle includes sitting on our chairs for hours and leading a sedentary lifestyle. It really helps in releasing the tightness and stiffness and helps our bodies be more open and flexible.
- Body Posture and Alignment: It helps in correcting our body postures and maintaining proper alignment. Using gravity, it uses whole body movement targeting specific muscle groups to unlearn and relearn movement patterns. This rebalances the underlying muscular and structural systems in body. When long-standing patterns shift and change, people feel an increased sense of freedom and autonomy in their bodies and lives.
- Youth: “If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.” – Joseph Pilates.
- Posture: Pilates exercises encourage alignment of spine and body alignment, which leads to improved posture during daily activities. With it, individuals notice reduction in neck and back pain, as well as increased overall comfort in their bodies.
- Balance and Coordination: Pilates exercises often involve shifting and holding body weight which involves performing movements challenging balance and coordination. At FLUX, we teach how to become more aware of our body movements improving our body control and stabilization. The controlled movements and emphasis on muscle alignment help prevent strain and injury. Pilates originated as rehabilitation to help individuals recover from injury, strengthen muscles that have weakened, and improve overall movement patterns.

Why Pilates in Bangalore at FLUX?
Pilates at FLUX is about tapping into the natural fitness of our bodies without the equipments or machines. It’s about having the innate body strength to move. We have all the elements and principles of Pilates covered in our Pilates classes. These are facilitated by experts who have specialized training through their lived experiences and training from experts in this field.

FLUX believes in the power of our own bodies. And we believe that it is in our human nature to move. Hence we are wired for healing through our natural ways in our fitness journeys.

Thus, we came up with Pilates in Bangalore for the community to learn sustainability when it comes to fitness. We as individuals with growing systematic changes, have forgotten the innate abilities of our bodies. We are used to employ external rather than internal sources when it comes to build body strength, flexibility, and mobility. We are so used to depending on external resources that we no longer go within to find mind body connection.

Growing capitalism has made our work productivity so much, that we have gone disconnected from nature and our own bodies. We have completely gone dependent on commercialized ways of seeking validation, or power. Back in the day, we used to grow our own food, cook it and lead a sustainable life. This in turn involved daily ways of movement, and kept us fit and healthy.

These days, we often find ourselves sitting for long hours in our chairs, in front of screens. Thus we often take our bodies for granted leading to back aches, illness, gut issues and autoimmune diseases. This affects our physical and mental health in an overall negative manner. Well, it is not that we chose this voluntarily, we are rather forced to choose this lifestyle to survive.

At FLUX, we believe in thriving and not surviving alone. It’s about unlearning and relearning through getting back to natural ways of fitness and let body guide us to healing.

Pilates for us is unlearning unhelpful body movement patterns and relearning alignment, posture, and efficiency while having fun. We believe that fitness should be accessible and sustainable with ease. Chronic sitting and not moving is robbing us from our human movement abilities that we have innately within us naturally.

Movement should be accessible and the whole idea behind Pilates in Bangalore is accessibility to your own bodies and movements. It’s just that the natural fitness and a healthy body are the by-products of our sessions of Pilates in Bangalore. We don’t need to flaunt six packs alone. We also need freedom of movement, freedom from body pain and freedom to explore our body to its full potential.
