Performance and Presence: A 50 Hour Course in Stage Presence to Stage Performance in Bangalore Indiranagar at FLUX
We are offering Performance and Presence: A 50 Hour Course in Stage Presence to Stage Performance in Bangalore Indiranagar at FLUX. It’s a one on one course and anyone can start it anytime one feels like.
Body, Captivation, Feeling, and Intention
The art of presence is the key essence of a performer’s body. A body may have skill and technique. But if a performer cannot captivate, move and make the audience feel, the intention of the performance is not able to get across. Here we already have many key words to talk about – body, captivation, feeling, and intention.
We are offering Performance and Presence: A 50 Hour Course in Stage Presence to Stage Performance in Bangalore Indiranagar at FLUX not only to work on the best stage presence for the best stage performance acting dance and songs; but also to work on one’s own recognition and openness to one’s inner feelings and desires. Here we do not work from outside to inside. Rather, we work from the inside to outside. We are deeply invested in giving space to understand one’s feelings, vulnerabilities and journeys to bring them out on stage.
That is why this is a 50 hour course. It is a one on one course in which each person gets individual time with the mentor and undergoes the process of a valuable deep learning. At the end of the course, we help them create a solo work that they can show. Now let us talk about each of the above mentioned words and themes.
Body: from Stage Presence to Stage Performance
In today’s fake world, we have become very effective liars and pretenders. We can say anything we want the other person to believe and they believe it. But our bodies cannot lie. Our bodies directly translate our feelings and they tell what we are thinking but not saying. As a performer, we will make you use this vulnerability of the body and send recognition and awareness to how the body tells its tales. We will work on making the body stronger and aware of what exists around it and what exists inside our mind. But we will also go into the nuances of what the body says when it is loose or when it is tight. We will investigate into how it feels when it is tense and how it feels when it is relaxed.
Proceeding along these lines, we will go into the recognition of all these facts to gain understanding and control over them. This way we can help you perform with alertness, agility and complete awareness of the different parts of your body. Each body is different and has different stories to tell. We want you to find your own story through your own body, so that it can be told in the most honest and authentic way possible.
Captivation: from Stage Presence to Stage Performance
The audience can tell if you are feeling or acting and if you are acting, they will know you are a good actor. But if they feel you they will wonder how you did what you did and what your story is. We like to generally work on the curiosity of the audience and how to keep that alive. This is when captivation comes into the picture. The most effective way of captivating the audience is through eyes. Eyes are truly a window to the soul. If you are able to express your feelings through your eyes, the audience will definitely be drawn into your performance.
At FLUX, we pay a lot of attention to eyes and work with them. We have our own techniques of working with eyes. That is why we have tailored this course as a series of one on one sessions with its students. It is to allow them to experience and go through their own journey to reach the awareness of eyes and translate it into feelings. We also work with opening up the peripheral vision and being more aware of the stage, pace, rhythm and one’s fellow performers.
Feeling: from Stage Presence to Stage Performance
We as artists believe that feelings predominate over form. That is why and how the performance itself can be a healing and meditative process for the performer. It is because they get to tap into parts of themselves they could never even know existed before.
At FLUX, we talk about feelings and form but let feelings take over the form. We try and tap into different feelings and explore them through both, the body and the mind. It’s done through movement, writing and discussion. We don’t believe in giving any of these a priority. In fact we feel that each of them is equally important in the process of making and creation.
We believe that actors don’t really need to be actors if they can be feelers. In fact performing means feeling. You should be feeling truly while opening up your own vulnerabilities to yourself and allowing people to know and feel what you feel. Once again, these feelings are seen through the eyes and this is the practice we would like to offer.
Intention: from Stage Presence to Stage Performance
Other than the body, the mind and the eyes, there is another important factor that makes the audience taste the entire performance in its complete dept. This factor is known as intention. It is what engulfs the performers body and forms a sort of energy all around it. And this is what the audience can feel. A very strong energy can throw the audience into a state of shock. And a calming energy can make them feel all warm from inside as well as safe and protected. This is the most central tool of performance. And it is something that can be arrived at through a personal journey of discovery alone.
We want to be with you on this journey. Intention becomes stronger through the conversations with the world and more importantly the conversations inside one’s head while performing. It is what captivates the mind of the performer. It allows them to be truly present where they are performing. In fact, it opens them up to what they are feeling as well as how the audience is feeling.
This is how a performer arrives at Presence.
The art of presence entails all the above understandings. It needs to arise inside a performer from within. This course will help you go on to this inner journey and into the practice of feeling, thinking, being and then finally becoming. And once you become, you are present.
This presence can be intuitively felt by the audience. It cannot be explained in words. It cannot be understood by logic. But it is stirring and can be felt in the air and the breaths of the room full of audience and performers where all merge into one and a catharsis gets created.
If you wish to become an excellent performer, you do need to master the art of excellent presence.
